Going for goals at Anfield

Post by sake »

There are four games in the Barclays Premier League on Tuesday and Ian Ogg provides a game-by-game preview of the action.

1pt Arsenal -2 on the handicap

1pt Sunderland to beat QPR

0.5pt Draw in Liverpool v Spurs with both sides to score
0.5pt Liverpool v Spurs to finish 2-2

Arsenal v Leicester City (1945 GMT)

It's no bad thing for Arsenal to have this game hard on the heels of their North London defeat as it ensures that the headlines roll on; assuming they win of course. The Foxes are playing reasonably well and certainly looked a shade unlucky not to take something from Saturday's match with Crystal Palace but that's the nub of the problem. There's no return yet (in terms of goals) on the cash splashed out on Andrej Kamaric and Leonardo Ulloa's fast start to the season is but a distant memory and Leicester's problems go some way to explaining why Gus Poyet was prepared to pay as much as he did for Jermaine Defoe. Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal players will be keen to ensure that there is no hangover from the Spurs game and the Frenchman has the depth in his squad to rotate his starting XI without weakening it noticeably. It would be no surprise to see Theo Walcott handed a start and he's worthy of consideration in the goalscoring markets in a game that it's inconceivable that the Gunners will lose. That's certainly the view of the layers who rate them 1/3 chances to take all three points and while that sort of price is for accas only. At a slightly longer 4/7, punters can back over 2.5 goals which would have collected in eight of Arsenal's last 10 games while they have been in front at half-time and full-time in all of their last four home games. That eventuality is available at a perfectly reasonable 4/5 and 8/11 but it may be worth taking a chance on a convincing Arsenal win. For all of Leicester's woes this season, Nigel Pearson has kept his side competitive and they haven't lost any game by more than two goals. They've lost five away games 2-0 (13/2) and Arsenal are odds against to win to nil but the Foxes have scored in six of their last seven road games in all competitiions and the Gunners defence isn't watertight. Their attack does have the potential to be free-flowing as Aston Villa found out and it's worth chancing that Arsenal can put Leicester to the sword for the first time this season and I'll back them to cover a two goal handicap with the bizarre rumours surrounding Nigel Pearson of no help to his side as they prepare for this game.
