Cole recently tweeted he expected to continue his career away from Stamford Bridge, while Eto'o was tipped to depart at the end of his one-year deal. Murat Yakin is the early favourite with Sky Bet to become the next Southampton manager following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino to take charge of Tottenham. Yakin is currently 7/2 to take charge at St Mary's while Michael Laudrup is 6/1 second favourite ahead of Frank de Boer, Rafael Benitez, Steve McClaren and Unai Emery, who are all available at 10/1.

Southampton chairman Ralph Krueger said: "We have begun the search for a new high-calibre manager. We will be looking for a manager that shares our values, our principles and our philosophy. A manager who can continue to grow the first-team and build on our strong foundation - a foundation led by an ambitious vision and plan that continues to build on our world-class academy, our amazing 129-year heritage and our excellent staff, and rewards our loyal and passionate fan base."
1830
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy added: "In Mauricio I believe we have a head coach who, with his high energy, attacking football, will embrace the style of play we associate with our club. He has a proven ability to develop each player as an individual, whilst building great team spirit and a winning mentality. We have a talented squad that Mauricio is excited to be coaching next season."

Mauricio Pochettino told Tottenham's official website: "This is a club with tremendous history and prestige and I am honoured to have been given this opportunity to be its head coach. Tottenham Hotspur has a huge following across the world and I have great admiration for the passion the fans show for this team. Right-footed and played left of a 3 behind the striker, always looking for a shot and seems to consistently whip the ball into those dangerous areas of the box. Simeone is an utter embarrassment so yes, Chelsea is the ideal fit for sure. Really don't mind who the next manager at Spurs is, unless he's 10 points clear by Xmas he'll be Levy'd. And did I read this right, £40m for Lallana and Clyne to Pool? If so, I'd say Saints might be tempted by that. All speculation of course but gives us something to talk about until the WC. Glad to see Wilshere is fit, good back up if Barkley and Henderson are injured or suspended."

Like a higher quality version of Di Canio. Cant think which club he would manage in the PL though. Chelsea are the obvious ones in terms of personality, and I guess that depends how much patience RA has with Jose. I for one would love him over here." Yeah, Chelsea much the likeliest option you'd think.
1035
Rich Lynn: "Plus of course Spurs cop a load more cash with Real winning La Decima. Another £8m for Bale I believe. Guess that makes him £94m man now. Not sure if similar applied with Modric."
1030
Darshan Shah: "I would like to defend Ronaldo here. Though his celebration was a bit over the top, but it was more about his performances through out in the CL rather than his goal scored on the night. You have gotta give him credit for the record breaking 17 goals scored by him in the Champions League. Though i would also add that i loved the way he celebrated (by crying his heart out) when we won the CL in 2008 more." The celebration was about making sure the iconic picture from the night was of him.
1002
Nathaniel Clyne is desperate for Mauricio Pochettino to stay at Southampton.

Rich Lynn: "Just a quick congratulations to Real Madrid for winning the Champions League. Good to see the best side, playing the best football triumphed over the park the bus outfit. Also funny to see Simeone revert to type at the end. What a truly horrible character he really is. Will be funny to see him in the Prem one day!! On the Spurs front, it looks like I may have won my first ever 'next manager' bet!! Nice little 5/1 on Pochettino. Might play up the winnings on Spurs next boss in Feb..." Simeone is an utter embarrassment so yes, Chelsea is the ideal fit for sure.

I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.

Liverpool are keen on Bayer Leverkusen's Emre Can.

Brad Smith: "I simply don't understand how you can't like Simeone. The main is pure box office and football is now about entertainment. Passionate and utterly mental.

Might play up the winnings on Spurs next boss in Feb..." Simeone in the Premier League is a thing that absolutely has to happen. Wouldn't last a season but it would be spectacular.

I would've taken Cole as he would play against sides with the better attacks, i.e. Uruguay because he is a far better defender than Baines. The squad players mentioned are exactly that, in a WC you shouldn't need to use more than about 15 unless something is drastically wrong. I will be devastated if Barkley doesn't play, he is the ideal candidate to do what Gazza '90, Owen '98, Rooney '04 did and it will only be negativity that would deny him that opportunity."

A very good afternoon to Allan: "As a Saints fan I would like to send my thanks to Rickie Lambert for everything that he has given the club over the past 5 years. He is an absolute legend and one of the main reasons that Southampton are back in the Premiership. I am glad that we did not stand in the way of him returning to his boyhood team (does anyone know if Messi is a lifelong Saints fan?) although £4m does sound cheap...I hope the add ons are easily triggered. We know that Saints have operated on a 5 year plan basis and therefore the sale of a 32 year old striker does not signal a mass exodus of talent from St Marys, but a move towards building a relatively young team over the coming seasons to compete in the top half of the table. Getting £4m for Lambert and probably £10m for 'Rocky' Osvaldo gives us a nice £14m in the pocket to find a suitable replacement. The new manager will have the final say on transfers and with a guaranteed £60m a year now in the Premiership there is not as much financial pressure for teams to sell to the so called big clubs (2x Manchesters, Liverpool , Arsenal & Chelsea - I don't include Spurs in that category) and we are an attractive proposition for players looking to move to the Premiership. Now I am looking forward to the World Cup knowing that the crown jewels will not be stolen beforehand and hoping that we get a good manager who will continue the philosophy of fast paced attacking football (Neil Lennon need not apply!)"

Good afternoon to Gordon: "Two or three months ago I suggested that of all the players currently in the PL that might realistically be available to Liverpool, Lallana was the one I would like to see at Anfield next season but I don't think he is worth £30m - but who knows when an ordinary player like David Luiz goes for £50m. Rich Lynn shows his obvious bias against Liverpool when he says they need 6-10 players to cope whereas 4-5 good players is much more likely to be the target. However, even if Liverpool do shell out £30m on Lallana it would still be great business compared with the purchases of Lamela & Soldado in particular and the rest that Spurs blew over £100m on last summer. I fully agree with his brother Rob that Glenn Johnson was dreadful last Friday and that he is fortunate to keep his England place due to the lack of alternatives but to suggest that a fit Kyle Walker is an international class full back is laughable. At least Johnson's poor show has deflected the spotlight away from how bad Rooney was and how much England will regret leaving Ashley Cole out by the time we are knocked out of the tournament. The whole problem with England is that we rely on a number of players like Jones, Smalling, Welbeck, Milner, Oxlaide-Chamberlain etc who struggle to get in their club teams and are yet to show they are good enough but surely if anyone who can't get a game at club level should have gone it must be Ashley Cole who is one of the few top players we have."

Rob Lynn writes: "Lallana, £30m? Really? He is in that category of being the best player at a smaller club, just like Charlie Adam was at Blackpool (although Saints are clearly better than that). Anyone paying that needs their head read and I'm convinced Levy won't be signing that cheque. On to the England game, disappointed not to see Barkley play more time, the game was crying out for someone to run in to space rather than looking to pass as soon as they received the ball. I believe Gary Cahill was the only player to actually beat someone, how ironic. As for the Kyle Walker haters on the TC, I know who I'd rather see at right back for England (yes I know he's injured but GJ is somehow 1st choice), I'd even be tempted to give Flanagan the 2 shirt at this rate."

Rich Lynn is in the TC: "On the fire sale at Saints, Rodriguez is the one I'd like at Spurs. As Paul mentioned a proven Premier League goal scorer but has about 8 years on Lambert. As we are obviously in dire need of a left-back would love Shaw too but will be priced out of that one. Looking at the stats Ben Davies at Swansea was every bit as good as Shaw last season and should be available at a fraction of the price so maybe he would be a chance. Not that we do well buying young Welsh left-backs...."

Romelu Lukaku is still hoping to play for Chelsea, but the Belgian striker is likely to wait until after the World Cup to resolve his future.

Morning to Brad Smith: "Lambert to Liverpool is among one of the more bizarre transfers of recent times. Odd indeed. As for Lallana, as a Bournemouth fan, I hope either Spurs or Liverpool overpay by about £20m and give Saints £30m. I think the Cherries get 25% of any transfer fee. Getting £6m plus would be huge for them."
0930
Hello to Paul Cressy: "Morning Nick, I must say, great piece of business in Lambert to Liverpool. A Proven Premier League goalscorer who will be a great addition to the squad. Lallana also a possible but is £25million overpriced? Did see Spurs will have to bid £30million to get him, have they even got £30million this year? But it appears Adam wants to go to Anfield regardless .Could be interesting times ahead for us Liverpool supporters." Fully agree Lambert would provide great value. Lallana does look like a big fee but that just appears to be the going rate for a player of that quality

Richard Marsden comments: "Lallana at £30m or Fabregas at £30m? I think Liverpool should go for the Spaniard personally."
1040
Paulinho has insisted he never considered leaving Tottenham during a difficult first season at White Hart Lane.
1029
Noel takes the TC in a different direction: "Not exactly a football or transfer post but I just wanted to tell all on TC to not miss the first GAA hurling match on Sky Sports next Saturday evening. The speed and skill of the game is quite astonishing but the best thing about the game is the way players get straight up from savage hits. As I said, not to be missed."
1022
The deadline for the final 23-man squads to be named is today and we have all of those named so far.
1014
We are getting ever closer to the World Cup. All the latest news is on this page.
1012
Rich Lynn is in the TC: "On the fire sale at Saints, Rodriguez is the one I'd like at Spurs. As Paul mentioned a proven Premier League goal scorer but has about 8 years on Lambert. As we are obviously in dire need of a left-back would love Shaw too but will be priced out of that one. Looking at the stats Ben Davies at Swansea was every bit as good as Shaw last season and should be available at a fraction of the price so maybe he would be a chance. Not that we do well buying young Welsh left-backs...."
0948
Romelu Lukaku is still hoping to play for Chelsea, but the Belgian striker is likely to wait until after the World Cup to resolve his future.
0937
0909
Leeds manager Brian McDermott left the club late on Friday night. Sky Bet have odds up on who will be the next boss at Elland Road.
0847
Busy at Anfield as Liverpool have also reportedly made an improved £25million bid for Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana.

Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been linked with a move to Inter Milan, but his agent Oscar Damiani isn't expecting a summer departure. Damiani told fcinternews.it:
Borussia will not deprive themselves of Pierre. He arrived only one year ago and he signed a five-year contract. The signing of Immobile by Borussia doesn't worry us. He was bought to replace Lewandowski and, however, Pierre has completely different characteristics from him.

Here's the full story on a line we brought you earlier, with Tom Ince revealing that he is to snub interest from the likes of Inter Milan in favour of staying in England. He ended last season on loan at Crystal Palace and is hoping to be back in the Premier League next term.
I am flattered to have received such strong interest from several big European clubs. But I believe at this early stage of my career I need to continue my football education in England.
