Earlier, Bayern Munich warmed up for Tuesday's Champions League game away to Roma with a crushing 6-0 win over Werder Bremen. It was a good day for the German champions, with winger Franck Ribery making his comeback as a substitute on the hour.
Philipp Lahm and Xabi Alonso gave them an early two-goal cushion before a 43rd-minute penalty from Thomas Muller and Mario Goetze's shot two minutes later killed off the game before the interval.
Lahm and Goetze got their second goals of the afternoon in the second half to lift Bayern to 20 points, four ahead of second-placed Borussia Moenchengladbach, who eased past Hanover 3-0.
