Waqas Masih was attacked after blasphemy allegations were made against him in Sharaqpur, in Sheikhupura district, on March 21. His father, Riasat Masih, claimed a co-worker called Muhammad Zohaib and others tried to pressure him to convert to Islam and attacked him after he refused.
