MUMBAI: Concluding a long e-auction process, which ran into third-day, Star India has emerged as the winner of the global media rights of the international and domestic cricket played in India for the next five years.
While the auction also saw aggressive bidding from Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) and Reliance Jio, it was Star India’s bid of Rs 6,138.10 crore, which decided the winner.
With the auctions over, Star India now owns rights of all the cricket that will be played in India till the next five years – BCCI hosted bilateral or tri-nation series - as well as the Indian Premier League (IPL). Earlier, Star India had won IPL rights for the next five years for a whopping Rs 16,347.5 crore.
However, the average per match payout of BCCI rights at Rs 60.18 crore has even surpassed that of IPL per match payout of Rs 54.5 crore.
