Telenor Publishes Coverage Map for its 3G, 4G Services

Post by Umair Malik »

Wireless mobile telecommunication technology has spread its wings in Pakistan. The improvements in the field, however, have been rather grim. The services provided have been variable at best.

As we reported in the past, users of 3G and 4G in Pakistan has reached a total of 32 million as of July 2016. The increased number of users demand satisfaction which requires better connectivity and sustainable bandwidth.

Telenor recently has started a service called 3G/4G Coverage Map. The company provides a bigger picture of the coverage area where the 3G and 4G services are enabled. It will help the users to assess the geographical locations where they will be able to use them.

Telenor uses Google’s mapping services to portray the effective area of the 3G and 4G services through different color coding scheme.

Following is a screenshot of how it looks like:

The green color identifies the 4G services where as the light blue color coding scheme is used for 3G.

This coverage map for Telenor’s 3G and 4G will ultimately enable users to get a clearer picture whether they will be able to utilize either 3G and 4G or not.

No matter how great the initiative is, there is always room to grow and improve. Telenor can introduce the percentage factor for each city which will assess the chances of the user’s request to access the technology along with the visual representation. It will make their efforts more convincing and representable.

The desktop applications are phasing out as more and more people are migrating towards smartphones. An application, similar to Google Maps, can help the users a lot and also improve their chances of making this service a bigger success.

Telenor could also consider marking areas (with grey color maybe) where users can expect 3G/4G coverage in next (say) three months, so that users in those areas remain on standby and don’t switch to other networks just for the sake of 3G or 4G services.
