The Telecom Regulation Authority of India's new regulations on paid and free-to-air channels will come into effect at midnight on December 28. From December 29, viewers will be able to choose what they want to pay for and will not have to subscribe to channels they never watch.
As of now, Multiple System Operators or MSOs offer a bundled package of channels. The MSOs such as Tata Sky or DishTV, Airtel, Hathway etc choose random channels into a package, and offer it to consumers. But after December 29, the consumers will have to choose individual channels, which they want to see.
But the new regulations have created confusion among the users. To clear the confusion, India TV brings you an exclusive interview with TRAI secretary SK Gupta:

No It Won't Effect Your Dish Channels
If You Remember 3-4 Weeks Back Tata Sky Had Removed All Sony Channels From It's Platform. Due To Payment Issues.As Cable And DTH Operators In India Negotiate With Broadcasters And Chose Random Channels In To A Package And Offer It To Customers.
Telecom Regulatory Authority Of India (TRAI) Just To Make Sure That Tata Sky-Sony Thing Never Happens Again Has Asked The Broadcasters (Sony, Star, Zee,....etc) To Come Out With A-La-Cart And Bouquet Pricing Of Their Channels. So Consumers Can Pay For What They Want To Watch Instead Of Paying For The Channels They Do Not Watch.
