After only two months of Android 8.0 Oreo launch, Google is ready to introduce Android 8.1 Oreo in few weeks.

The current version of Android 8.0 Oreo is already available in all Pixel and Nexus phones and the new upcoming version of Android 8.1 Oreo is expected to be initially available for the first and second generation Pixel phones. The new update will also enable the Pixel Visual Core on Pixel devices, which is a separate custom image processor chip present in Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL.

Google Pixel Visual Core is the first custom-designed co-processor for consumer goods. It is manufactured to provide lower-latency and more power-efficient HDR+ processing. Apart from the main camera application, Google Pixel’s other camera apps will also be able to benefit from the new HDR+ technology.

The chip will function separately of the main Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. It also contains a single Cortex-A53 CPU core, eight Image Processing Unit cores and LPDDR4 memory, reported Tech Juice.

The chip is not yet enabled and reportedly, the new upcoming Android 8.1 Oreo will enable it. According to the tech giant, as soon as the chip starts operating, it will improve the image processing by five times and will also take 1/10th of power in comparison with Snapdragon 835.

However, as per GSM Arena, Google has not yet revealed much detail regarding the new Android 8.1 Oreo update.
